how to make skin detox tea

It’s no secret that our skin reflects our health. Diet, lifestyle, and the things we put on it mirror our internal well-being. Eating healthy, moving our bodies daily, and using clean nourishing products on our skin can help promote a healthy glow and a clear complexion. Just as it’s important to cleanse the outside of our bodies, so too is cleansing from the inside.

Herbs are amazing for naturally cleansing our bodies gently and effectively. They can reduce internal impurities and help strengthen our elimination pathways allowing organs like the liver and kidneys let go of overabundant toxins and sweeping clean the colon.

Since I’m getting married in March, I have been very careful about keeping my skin as clear as I can in order to help prevent hyperpigmention. I’m very pale so even just getting a zit and never touching it leaves a mark. I have been pretty lucky thus far and thought you guys would like to know what’s been my little secret.

Skin Detox Tea. It’s a miracle!

I’m sure you may be familiar with Yogi’s Skin Detox Tea. If you haven’t tried it, you NEED to! Not only does it taste great, it really works wonders when you need that extra little boost. For me it’s the reassurance that my skin is going to behave itself. Times have been stressful, which is why I’ve been a little more absent from the blog than usual. Planning a wedding eats up ALL OF YOUR TIME which is another reason I like this tea, you can pick it up at any health food store very easily as you need it.

However, even getting out to the grocery store can be too time consuming when you’re getting married in less than 55 days. You start to run out of weekends really fast so naturally, I had to figure out how to make my own skin detox tea recipe.

How to Make Skin Detox Tea

This tea tastes a bit stronger than the kind you can buy off the shelf, so if you prefer a lighter flavor I recommend picking it up at the store. However, if you’re up for a stronger formula that packs a punch and is going to last you a bit longer, read on.

Here’s what you’re going to need:

• 2 cups loose leaf green tea (I like this one)
• 1 cup red rose petals
• ½ cup honeybush leaf
• ½ cup hibiscus flower
• ½ cup red clover blossom
• ¼ cup cardamom pods
• ¼ cup oregon grape root
• ¼ cup dried orange peel (organic)
• ¼ cup burdock root
• ¼ cup dandelion root (not roasted)
• ¼ cup yellow dock root
Stevia drops to taste or a very small amount of sweetener like raw honey

Makes a total of 6 cups of loose leaf tea which is about 250-288 servings of tea depending on how heaping your teaspoon measurements are.

Loving Preparation- Skin Detox Tea Recipe

Add all of the ingredients to a large glass container or tin, pop the lid on and shake gently to combine them evenly.

To Use

Add one teaspoon of homemade skin detox tea to a tea ball. Pour boiling water over the top and let the tea steep for 6 minutes.

Drink 2-3 cups per day for best results.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Drink this tea for 30 days and then take a break for 1 week before resuming. It’s very important to let your body take a detox rest otherwise you will tire out your body and the results of the tea may begin to reverse.

Why These Herbs Work

Green Tea

Green tea is full of polyphenols and antioxidants which are known to help your body fight free radicals keeping your skin radiant and healthy. Green tea also keeps you stay hydrated and energized throughout the day, it increases your body’s defense against illness, and boosts your vitality.

Rose Petals

Roses ease and improve digestion, improve healthy blood circulation, defend your body against free radicals, and provide a number of vitamins that are good for skin health. Rose petals also taste amazing in tea!

Honeybush Leaf

High in antioxidants and also an amazing herb for controlling blood sugar, a leading cause of acne. Honeybush leaf also contains many essential minerals like iron, manganese, calcium, and potassium.

Hibiscus Flower

Hibiscus flowers have the amazing ability to firm, lift, and smooth the skin’s texture giving it a rather fitting nickname in the beauty community: the botox plant. Applying the brewed tea of hibiscus encourages healthy cell turnover, calms acne, and improves the elasticity of the skin. It tones and strengthens the colon allowing for better elimination and detox.

Red Clover Leaf and Flower

Red clover is an amazing herb for detox. It builds and cleanses the blood and helps the body balance its hormones (very important for acne sufferers!). It also stimulates bile production which helps your liver process the fats you eat making digestion easier.

Cardamom Pods

Not only does cardamom taste great, it also helps the body kill off harmful bacteria in the gut. It uplifts the mood, making it a great addition to any tea because let’s face it, dealing with skin problems can get depressing!

Oregon Grape Root

Cleanses the blood and stimulates the liver. Oregon grape root is also wonderful for purifying the blood and combating skin ailments and irritations. It is said that Oregon grape root is better than many over the counter medicines for a number of dermatological conditions including acne. It is also a great decongestant for the colon as it helps it release stuck toxic waste.

Organic Dried Orange Peel

Helps support regular bowel movements which eliminates excess waste in the colon. Orange peel also supports liver health which is very important for clear skin.

Burdock Root

Burdock increases the removal of toxins from the body by aiding liver detox. Acne is often caused by an overabundance of hormones or toxins that get recirculated into the bloodstream and burdock helps keep your liver strong and revitalized. It also purifies the blood, stimulates the immune system, and detoxifies the skin.

Dandelion Root

Another amazing herb for liver health and detox, dandelion root also helps the body remove excess cholesterol. It also supports the gallbladder and increases bile flow as well making it easier for our body to process fats.

Yellow Dock

Yellow dock supports the liver and bile production (do you see the theme here?) and reduces skin inflammation. Also a great herb for supporting colon health by eliminating constipation.
